NASA wished Happy Halloween to fans in a creative way. They posted on Instagram and Facebook a photo of carved pumpkin looking like a cosmic jack-o-lantern. In October 2014, this image was taken by Solar Dynamics Observatory of NASA showing the active spots on the sun.
Active regions discharge more energy and light, therefore, they are brighter. These spots make up corona, which is the layer in the atmosphere of the sun that has a highly intense and complicated magnetic field.
